Roots in Virginia and Family

Growing up in a small southern town in Virginia, our founder intimately understands the power of community and the challenges faced by many in the region. Early childhood education took place in a segregated school system until the fourth grade, an experience that shaped a deep empathy for those affected by systemic injustice and a lifelong dedication to equity. Family, especially the nurturing presence of a mother and grandmother, was central to these formative years. Together with siblings, the founder was raised in a tightly-knit, supportive home that instilled lasting values of care, resilience, and collective well-being.

Faith and Community Engagement

Involvement in the church began at a young age and has been a guiding force ever since. The spiritual community was not only a place of worship, but a foundation for leadership, compassion, and service—a place where the seeds of social justice advocacy were first sown. A Core Philosophy: "I Am Because We Are" at the heart of Echoes of Helen Clinical and Consulting Services is the founding principle: I am because We are. This Ubuntu-inspired belief emphasizes interconnectedness and shared humanity. It has driven a commitment to make life better for others, guiding every endeavor—whether in clinical practice, teaching, ministry, or consulting.

How Roots Shape Our Work

Empathy for Diverse Life Journeys: Personal experience with segregation and community resilience brings a nuanced, insightful approach to client care and organizational consulting. Family-Inspired Values: The central role of mothers, grandmothers, and familial support shapes a practice rooted in care, encouragement, and empowerment.  Faith-Driven Service: Lifelong church involvement inspires a mission to foster healing, reconciliation, and justice, particularly within faith communities.

Commitment to Collective Uplift

"I am because we are" is more than saying—it's reflected in every service, outreach, and relationship built. Our story informs our mission: to walk alongside individuals, families, organizations, and faith communities—uplifting, empowering, and weaving together a more just and compassionate society.  Please add to the Core Philosophy. I named the company Echoes of Helen which is the name of my grandmother and mother because I believe we carry the voices of those who influenced us in our most formative years. The voices of our ancestors continue to echoes in our consciousness and stay with us our entire lives. As we get get older we learn how to manage the echoes play a positive part in our decision making and we discard those echoing voices that do not bring value or peace to our being. Please add to the Core Philosophy.

At the heart of Echoes of Helen Clinical and Consulting Services lies a deep appreciation for the lasting influence of those who have shaped us most profoundly in our formative years. The company is named in honor of the founder’s grandmother and mother, emphasizing the belief that we each carry the voices and wisdom of our ancestors, mentors, and loved ones within us. These echoes—silent or resounding—become guiding forces, shaping our choices, values, and sense of self. As we journey through life, the voices of those who nurtured, encouraged, and molded us remain present in our consciousness, offering both comfort and guidance. They are reminders of the strength, resilience, and compassion passed down through generations. With time and reflection, we learn to discern which echoes enrich our lives, bring us peace, or inspire us to uplift others.

Part of our personal growth is learning to amplify the voices that offer wisdom and empowerment, while gently letting go of those that may no longer serve our well-being or hold us back from peace and fulfillment. This philosophy frames every interaction and service provided by Echoes of Helen, guiding our commitment to:  Honoring the past by recognizing the enduring impact of those who have come before us.  Empowering the present through intentional, mindful choices that reflect core values. Building the future on a foundation of collective wisdom, healing, and hope.“ We are living echoes of those who shaped us—each decision an opportunity to honor their love and shape a more compassionate world. ”This holistic perspective is woven into the company’s dedication to social justice healing, and community transformation. Each client, organization, and faith community served is invited to reflect on their own echoes, fostering a journey toward greater peace, purpose, and connection.
